hello?

by Zachary Zezima on November 13th, 2011

I’m here. I blame Netflix.

So I’m currently working larger, illustrating Bible stories (some known, but mostly little-known). These works will eventually be made into a zine published by my friends at Wild Isle! I’d like to try and find somewhere to show the originals…but we’ll see about that.

first print

Here’s the first print I made using the screen printing unit Ana and I built together (mentioned in a previous post). I think it came out pretty well, despite all of the emulsion glitches. DIY or die…view the Etsy listing here.

bitch magazine summer 2011

by Zachary Zezima on June 4th, 2011

The summer (and 15th anniversary) issue of Bitch Magazine came out this week, and here are the spreads of my illustrations and type for the main feature, “Nobody’s Mother”. The design looks great…special thanks to designer and AD Kristin Brown for the opportunity and artistic freedom!

painting in progress and bitch mag

by Zachary Zezima on May 1st, 2011

It’s been a while. I’ve been working a bit for Robert Greene whose opening is May 5th at Robert Miller Gallery. Now that I have some more free time…I’ve started painting! I guess my job has finally infiltrated my personal work. This is on black paper and it’s pretty big, too. I need a studio.

In other news, I’ll have three illustrations + some type in the June issue of Bitch Magazine for a story about Courtney Love’s family history of maternal loss. Apparently the past 4 generations of women in her family have voluntarily or involuntarily lost custody of their daughters. What a vicious and strange cycle.

Learned Mothering Tip #1: Do not put your daughter in a chicken coop when she’s having a tantrum, no matter how much you think it will calm her down.

Learned Mothering Tip #2: Do not write a memoir about your Mother’s mistakes while simultaneously defending your own identical ones.

I’ll post some images of the spreads once I get them since the last two spots will sort of interact across the page. Should be cool.
